Vegemite Scroll
Ingredients
Dough
- 187g warm milk
- 150g sour dough discard
- 1 egg
- 60g unsalted butter (for the dough)
- 360g all purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
Filling
- 2 tbsp Vegemite
- 20g unsalted butter (for the filling)
- 100g grated cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Mix warm milk an discard together in bowl.
- Melt butter (for the dough) in 15 second burst in microwave.
- Add egg and butter (for the dough) to the milk & discard.
- Mix in four, salt, baking powder and baking soda until shaggy dough forms. Cover and rest for 20-30mins.
- Uncover and knead for 5 minutes. Rest for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 180°c.
- Melt butter (for the dough) in 15 second burst in microwave, mix together with Vegemite.
- Roll out dough into square.
- Spread Vegemite mixture across dough & sprinkle the cheese evenly (save some for topping).
- Cut up dough into 12 strips (a pizza cutter is good for this) & roll each up.
- Place on oven tray evenly and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
- Bake covered at 180°c for 10 mins.
- Remove lid and bake for a further 10 mins.
